According to many sources, including the AP, AHN, and The Onlinewire.com, Miss Venezuela has won the Miss Universe 2008 contest on Monday. Venezuela is not a strange winner on the Miss Universe contest since it is one of countries that has won the most Miss Universe titles. Also, this particular Miss Universe 2008 gave an hilarious spectacle when Miss USA felt down during the evening gown competition for the second year in a row.

Dayana Mendoza, 22, is a 5-foot, 10-inch (178 cm) -green-eyed beauty who purportedly enjoys learning languages and photography. In addition the new Miss Universe, Dayana Mendoza, was once kidnapped in Venezuela. She believes that this experience taught her how to remain poised under pressure.

It seems that this year Latin America stormed the Miss Universe since four out of the five final contestants were from Latin America: Miss Mexico, Miss Dominican Republic, Miss Colombia and Miss Venezuela. Only Miss Russia was not from that part f the world. Miss Colombia finished second behind Mendoza.

This year's Miss Universe participants had a ample range of experiences and aspirations. In fact, Miss Albania said she is a professional basketball player. On the other hand, Miss Argentina said she has paranormal experiences (does she felt she was not going to win? and Miss Antigua & Barbuda is strange girl fascinated by snakes. Strange enough Miss Angola was in a plane crash while trying to escape a conflict during her country's civil war and the winner Miss Venezuela was kidnapped a year and a half ago.

Miss Thailand was elected as the woman with the best national costume and Miss El Salvador was chosen as Miss Congeniality (peer elected). Show star Jerry Springer and Spice Girl Melanie Brown broadcasted live, from NHA TRANG, Vietnam, to hundreds of millions of viewers in 170 countries.

The Miss Universe 2008 was characterized by the hilarious fall of Miss USA (Crystle Stewart of Texas) during the evening gown competition. For the second time in a row Miss USA has given us a spectacle to laugh about. Of course, this spectacles have been ground for dismissal from the competition. Last year Miss USA also fell down.

Miss Venezuela, Dayana Mendoza, is the 5th Venezuelan lady to win the Miss Universe. Venezuela has had 5 fist runner-ups, 4 second runners-up and 4 third runners-up. Puerto Rico is tied with Venezuela in number of winners and only the USA has more winners than Venezuela (seven).
